Abstract
Fourth years of relationship between the department of geography of Lille and its region This article deals with the professionnal opening of the department of geography of Lille. This opening, today rests on fourty years of experience which have developed in four stages. The sixties point up a training period relative to the birth of country planning. At the beginning of the seventies, the first professionnal geographical trainings are setting up. In the eighties, with the decentralization of State's policies and the emergence of local development, the relationship between the department of geography and the region have strengthened. Since the beginning of the nineties, because of the métropolisation and of the relationship existing between the North and the South, the Institute has opened towards Europe and the rest of the world, becoming an important actor of decentralized cooperation.
