Abstract
A method is described for quantitative PIXE analysis of thick samples containing large amounts of light elements which do not yield X-ray lines in common spectroscopy using Si(Li) detectors. The method consists of estimating the concentration of one of the most abundant elements in a separate analysis using borate beads and in adjusting the unknown concentration of the “invisible” elements during the calculation of the abundances of the detected elements until the result is in accordance with the value found for the most abundant element. The principle of the calculation and several applications are described.
