Abstract

A procedure, based in 2D finite element models, for accelerating the calculation of additional losses in large foil windings of dry-type distribution transformers is presented. The different levels of simplification proposed are compared with a detailed 2D simulation of the windings. The errors in the different approximations, compared with the reference, and the improvement of calculation speed are studied. This procedure helps to select the level of simulation necessary in design or optimisation applications that require the additional losses in windings.
