Abstract
An attempt has been made to obtain resonance emission of HgH bands in propane-mercury mixtures illuminated with λ2537. It is concluded that if HgH is formed in the primary step in the photo-sensitized decomposition of paraffins, it must possess excess energy and largely dissociate immediately. Further experiments with mercury-hydrogen mixtures illuminated with λ2537 have also been made, and the mechanism of the production of excited HgH molecules is discussed.
