Abstract
A controlled thermal reduction method was proposed using homemade Mg2Si alloy powder as the reducing agent and amorphous SiO2 as the precursor. The product Si crystallites with an average crystallite size of about 10 nm were successfully prepared. This work discussed the impact mechanism of thermal effect on the reduction reaction in detail. The experimental results indicated that a combination of ball-milling Mg2Si alloy and reducing the temperature ramp rate achieved zero heat accumulation in the reaction system.
