Abstract

This research developed a porous hollow ceramic microsphere as a carrier for delivering the additives of cement. The preparation process of porous hollow ceramic microspheres was introduced, and the effects of different manufactural parameters, which are the dosage of water, sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate and porogen, and the sintering temperature, on the property of microsphere were analyzed. Results showed that the metakaolin-based hollow microspheres can be prepared by the inverse suspension method. The porous hollow ceramic microspheres show excellent absorbing ability, which can absorb additives into the inner hollow of the microspheres. This novel microsphere can carry both hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials.
