Abstract

The objective of this work is to synthesize polyvinyl alcohol/polyaniline-montmorillonite clay nanofibers that allow the control of the physicochemical parameters of these systems and to evaluate the use of this type of hybrid material in devices for detecting alcohol vapors. This work describes the synthesis of organophilic montmorillonite clay/polyaniline nanocomposites by in situ polymerization and its use as an additive in a matrix of polyvinyl alcohol obtained through the electrospinning technique. The tensile characteristics of the polyethylene/polystyrene/organically modified montmorillonite composite material had been enhanced with the increase mass of organically modified montmorillonite and reduced after 1.5%. Further, the flexural modulus had also been enhanced with the enhanced mass of organically modified montmorillonite and once again, the maximum value had been noticed at 1.5% mass of organically modified montmorillonite in the composite.[copyright information to be updated in production process]
