Abstract

Treatment modalities in diabetic retinopathies, advances in surgical techniques, and a better understanding of the physiopathology of diabetic retinopathy continue to change the way we approach the disease. In addition to anti-VEGF agents, steroid agents are also used in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. These intravitreal agents are used in the medical treatment of diabetic retinopathy as well as in cases where diabetic vitrectomy is planned/performed. Costs and non-adherence to treatment may highlight the option of early vitrectomy in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
