Abstract

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON AQUATIC SCIENCES AND RESOURCES MANAGEMENTHighland to Ocean: Biology, Ecology and Aquatic Resources ManagementWe thank all International Symposium participants on Aquatic Sciences and Resources Management (ISARM) 2020 at IPB University, Bogor, Indonesia. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in various countries limiting activities involving large numbers of people and travel restrictions between regions and countries, the international symposium is conducted with an online scheme using the zoom platform. Firstly, this activity would still be carried out offline, so there was a delay, which will initially be carried out on 15-16 July 2020, postponed to 16-17 November 2020. However, the covid pandemic cases are still not over and continue to increase. ISARM 2020 is organized by the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University, Indonesia. We are honored to be able to host the ISARM 2020 with the theme “Highland to Ocean (H2O): Biology, Ecology and Aquatic Resources Management.” Specifically, the theme is divided into ten topics, namely: aquatic biology and ecology; aquatic environment, ecosystem and conservation; aquatic endangered, protected, invasive alien, exotic, and miscellaneous organism; integrated inland waters and coastal management; fisheries management; social-ecological system framework for aquatic resources management; aquatic pollution; climate adaptation and resilience; aquatic natural products; and aquatic bioprospecting.Efforts toward sustainable use and conservation of aquatic resources become a contribution to achieving sustainable development goals, especially SDG 14: Life Below Waters. Therefore, the (ISARM) aims to:1. Catalyze research, especially among scientists in the world in the field of aquatic resources management and provide opportunities for scientists, researchers and practitioners to share experiences and information about current research activities and developments in aquatic resources sciences;2. To establish cooperation/networks of scientists, researchers and practitioners among nations;3. Publishing the research results of lecturers/researchers in scientific periodicals with an international reputation and indexed by Scopus;4. Improve the lecturers/researchers reputation; and5. Assisting the government in realizing the SDGs agenda in the context of sustainable aquatic resource management.Understanding the current state of biology, ecology, and aquatic resources management will help us optimize the benefits of resources for our community. Collaboration is a key success for the above purposes, and the interregional and interdisciplinary collaboration in aquatic science is expected to foster research activity and its development, especially in aquatic resources. The ISARM is the final event. Previously, our department has been conducted a webinar series as a road to ISARM, namely:1. Right-Based Fisheries Management for Inland Fisheries in Indonesia: Challenges and Opportunities in June 2020;2. Strategies to boost the potential of Marine Ecotourism Paradise of Indonesia in July 2020;3. Ecology and Conservation of Seagrass Ecosystem: “Challenges of Coastal Economic Development” in September 2020; and4. Book Review on Marine Protected Areas in October 2020.Additionally, all participants in this event are expected to contribute knowledge and solutions to marine and fisheries stakeholders and support the government in realizing the SDGs agenda. The symposium on the theme “Highland to Ocean (H2O): Biology, Ecology and Aquatic Resources Management” was held in two days on 16-17 November 2020 in Bogor, Indonesia, through online methods and hosted offline from the Discussion Room of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, IPB University. The symposium presents four keynote speakers, attended by 99 oral presentations and 24 poster presentations and participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Czech, and Germany.List of Welcome Speech by Rector of IPB University, Conference Photographs, Sponsor or Funding Acknowledgments, List of Committees, List of Participants and Affiliations, Editorial Team are available in this pdf
