Abstract

AbstractThe following 21 papers were presented at the 1st Institute for the Theory of Advanced Materials in Information Technology Workshop on Computational Materials and Electronics held 20–22 October 2005 in Austin, Texas, USA. Not every talk given at the workshop is represented with a paper in this selection; however, the reader should be able to obtain a scope of the Workshop. This workshop is a continuation of a series of workshops on computational materials and electronicsPapers presented at the 5th Motorola Workshop appeared in phys. stat. sol. (b) 241, No. 10 (August 2004). sponsored by Motorola that have covered materials theory, nano‐device physics and semiconductor processing. The 2005 workshop focused on two areas: Materials Theory, and Molecular Electronics and Charge Transfer in Biosystems. The participants came from several US universities, research centers in Europe and Israel, Oak Ridge National Research Laboratory, Texas Instruments, Intel, 3M, IBM and Motorola corporate research organizations. The Institute for the Theory of Advanced Materials in Information Technology is supported by the National Science Foundation and is dedicated to promoting research on understanding electronic materials. You can learn more about the institute at the web site http://www.ices.utexas.edu/ccm/itamit/. We wish to thank the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, National Science Foundation, and Office of Naval Research for their financial support of the workshop.
