Abstract

The 1st edition of International Conference on Sustainable Infrastructural Development (ICSID 2019) aimed at bringing together researchers, policymakers and industrialists with the view to chat the course for environmentally sustainable infrastructure for enhanced human lives held from June 24th to 26th, 2019. The Conference was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria.Consequently, papers presented in the ICSID 2019 are contained within in this proceeding.Three plenary sessions touching different aspects of Sustainable Infrastructural Development and state of the art researches were held. On the first day, Professor Clinton Aigbavboa, the Keynote Speaker from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa spoke on “Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure for Africa - a Biomimicry Approach”. Then followed the speech of Engr. Oludayo Oluyemi, Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers on “Urgent needs for road sector reforms in Nigeria”. Thereafter, came the speech of Engr. (Dr.) Ike, past President, Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers on “The Building Production Process, Associate Activities and Building Collapse”. The second day witnessed the presentation of Engr. Lawrence Ajuyah of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) on “Sustainable Infrastructural Development – Which Way Nigeria?”, while on the third day Professor David O. Omole, Dean College of Engineering of Covenant University presented on “Towards Achieving Sustainable Infrastructural Development in Nigeria”.Moreover, over 180 abstracts were received for the conference, while 150 papers were accepted and 130 contributed papers were presented over eight sessions grouped under the following sub-themes: Sustainable Housing and Construction, Sustainable Construction Materials, Sustainable Infrastructure and Computational Modelling, Environment, Transportation, Infrastructure, Geotechnics and Water Resources, and Social Developmental Issues.We do expect that these papers will greatly benefit the research community, policymakers and industrialists in the area of Sustainable Infrastructural Development for an enhanced environment for human habitation.Dr Anthony Nkem EdeChair, ICSID 2019
