Abstract

A composite-resonator vertical-cavity laser (CRVCL) contains two optically coupled and electrically independent cavities [1]. In this work, we demonstrate the coupled cavity structure can be utilized to pre-emphasize direct modulation and thus enhance the laser modulation bandwidth. Direct modulation is applied through one of the cavities, and a reverse DC voltage is applied to the other cavity for pre-emphasis.
