Abstract

Summary form only given. The monolithic integration of coupled resonators within a vertical cavity surface emitting laser diode enables new functionality due to the unique ability to tailor the optical properties of the laser. We show the threshold characteristics of a dual cavity composite resonator vertical cavity laser (CRVCL) are consistent with current mediated quantum well absorption when varying the injection current into either the top or the bottom cavity. The CRVCL output characteristics that we present here suggest potential applications for high speed laser modulation.
