Abstract

A three dimensional ray tracing model for microcellular radio wave propagation scenarios is presented based on ray optics and the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction. Propagation mechanisms for specular reflection, specular transmission, diffraction and diffuse scattering are included in the model. A semideterministic model is also used to provide complementary predictions in specific situations expanding the model's capabilities to include interference analysis in multiple base station environments. The accuracy of predictions is examined with measurement results in an urban local loop environment in a residential area in New York City. These results include propagation loss and polarization effects for different transmit/receive configurations in the immediate surroundings of a trial site for wireless loop applications.
