Abstract
(Abstracted from Prenatal Diagnosis 2021;41:283–300) Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a congenital malformation of the central nervous system that is caused by an incomplete closure of the neural tube during the third to fourth week of embryonic development. An MMC can be seen in some cases by prenatal ultrasound in the first trimester, although most cases are diagnosed during the second trimester.
