Abstract
In this paper we present our methodological approach that enabled us, as a co-ordinator of translation internships, to gather relevant information about major tendencies in the labour market and legal translation services market in the area of Barcelona city (Spain). In the first part of the paper we explain how we understand the relationship between universities, employees and professional groups. Later on, we present results of the studies dealing with the employment of the graduates from translation programmes and the classification of job profiles in the translation activities in Barcelona. In the second part of the paper, we include results of our analysis based on data collected between 2006-2009, from post-graduate courses, during our previous function as a co-ordinator of legal translation internships in the Department of Translation and Interpreting (Departament de Traduccio i d’Interpretacio), Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona - UAB). We conclude by exposing principal tendencies in the labour market and legal translation services market in Barcelona, and propose several strategies for future modifications.
