Abstract

Although the abundant benefits of the Internet of Things (IoT) are inspiring our culture, it ought to be noted that the IoT also devours energy, supports lethal contamination and e-waste. This causes new stress on the environment and smart domain. To increase the benefits and diminish the detriment of IoT, there is a cumulative aspiration to move toward Green IoT. Green IoT is perceived as the aspect of IoT that is ecologically friendly. To attain that, it is vital to establish procedures to lessen the carbon footprint, safeguard fewer assets, and stimulate competent practices for energy convention. The aim is a Green IoT, where machines, communications, sensors, clouds, and internet are energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions. Nowadays, Smart City planners are beginning to put the Internet of Things (IoT) into practice. Using expertise to mend and alter the prevailing infrastructure will lead to more maintainable and proficient communities that are benign, more attractive places to live, work, and visit. Eventually, this wider idea behind Smart Cities can only be attained if Green IoT applications and systems are intended to be interoperable and open to communication associations between them, while still preserving the right level of safety. This chapter offers a thorough review of the current ongoing research work and potential technologies of Green IoT with an eye to imminent Green IoT research. Smart city traits, applications, features, and architecture are also discussed.
