Abstract
ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped research dynamics in Indian medical academia, prompting shifts in publication patterns. Using data from 2017 to 2022 from Scopus, encompassing pre- and post-pandemic periods, the study focuses on the top six medical institutes in India. Despite pandemic challenges, using scientometric analysis, this study reveals increased research productivity, albeit with a decline in book-based scholarly communication. Notably, there’s been a significant rise in unique publication venues post-COVID-19, indicating a shift in publishing preferences. Additionally, medical academics have initiated collaborations with new countries, signaling proactive responses to the pandemic. These findings have crucial implications for medical institutes’ libraries. Libraries, as pivotal information hubs, must adapt to support researchers amidst evolving publication trends. Understanding these shifts enables libraries to tailor services, facilitate access to resources, and foster scholarly communication effectively.
