Abstract
The Colombian democratic system and to a large extent the Latin American one, have been surrounded by the influence of three political phenomena such as populism, political elitism and family legacy, becoming the course of the leaders, parties and citizen movements that ambition the political power. The main objective of this article was to describe the behavior of populism, political elitism and family legacy from the Colombian perspective. And it is the product of the bibliographic reviews carried out during the execution of the research called Consequences of the hegemony of the congressmen in the power of the Colombian legislative branch from 1968 to 2018. Among the results achieved is the national policy marred by strategies that they seek to cloud people’s capacity of choice by making them believe that the popular is the best, where the economic power lies is the intellectual power, and that a surname represents security.
