Abstract

The article examines the development of fertility and four indicators measuring family policy income transfers [in Finland] from 1950 to 1978 i.e. family policy expenditures as (1) a percentage of social expenditures (2) a percentage of GNP (3) related to number of children. The fourth factor is the family policy expenditures per child in relation to the GNP per capita. It is found that some of the time series showed at least periodically high correlation with the fertility figures. Finally the author discusses different family policy measures and their posssible effects and suitability. Some comparative data on age-specific fertility rates in Denmark Norway and Sweden are also presented. (EXCERPT)
