Abstract

Nickel doped zinc oxide (ZnO) was synthesized using hydrothermal co-precepetation method. This modified ZnO then reinforced in Polyether ether keton (PEEK) by ultrasound-assisted hydrothermal technique. The characterization of synthesized material was done by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDAX), Diffuse reflectance ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry (UV-DRS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The characterization revealed important information regarding the synthesized material and proved successeful fabrication between the polymer and nanomaterial. The tribological behaviour of nanocomposite was investigated using friction coefficient and rate of wear. Nanocomposite with doped filler shown reduction in the wear rate and friction coefficient as compared to pure PEEK. The surface morphology confirmed the improvement in the abrasion resistance. Ultimately,the synthesized composite of PEEK and nickel doped ZnO came out as better material due to synergestic effect between nano-particles and polymer for tribological application.
