Abstract

Abstract : The antifriction properties of a polyamide obtained by polycondensation of pyromellitic anhydride and diaminodiphenyl ether were determined on films and coatings in sliding friction against polished steel. The relatively high thermal stability of the polyamide enables it to retain its physicomechanical and hence antifriction properties over a wide temperature range. Thin-layer polyamide on a metal support can be used as an antifriction material at sliding rates of 1 to 10 m/sec and loads of 80 to 100 kg/sq. cm. It is shown that polycaproamide cannot be used at high loads and sliding rates. (Author)
