Abstract

Heuristic algorithms yield solutions to optimization problems involving structural elements made of materials with stochastic properties. This has been demonstrated on the example of an optimally designed three-layer metal-composite cylindrical shell under axial compression. A solution of the optimization problem in a stochastic formulation obviates the necessity of stipulating the values of structural parameters without justification from the standpoint of reliability requirements.
