Abstract
This article discusses the reality of diversity by using the concept of "multiculturalism". In political projects, multiculturalism includes the constitutional-based civil society movement fighting for equality and justice. In the context of Indonesia, Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution are the basis of a multicultural political constitution. The discussion on constitutional-based multiculturalism politics then becomes a kind of theory to understand the practice of multiculturalism in the context of North Sulawesi. In the midst of the outbreak of the practice of identity politicization, the civil society movement that pays attention to the politics of multiculturalism is important to be used as an important issue in the diversity management discourse at the local leve

Summary
Indonesia ini hidup orang-orang yang beragam latar belakang asal-usul etnis, agama dan budaya.Di wilayah kepulauan. Terdapat sekitar 633 etnis (suku) dengan 652 bahasa daerah. Selain tersebut kemungkinan lebih banyak lagi, yaitu berkisar 1.340 jika ditambah dengan sub-sub suku. Jumlah ini masih terus diperdebatkan, antara lain kaitan dengan definisi suku dan sub suku yang mesti disepakati lagi. Dengan kenyataan sosio-historiskultural tersebut, jadilah Indonesia sebagai negara yang sangat plural/majemuk. Indonesia merdeka bukan negara teokratis berdasarkan hukum agama, atau kerajaan, melainkan harus berdiri sebagai nationstate, negara modern, kebangsaan, yang berpijak di atas keragaman. Provinsi Sulawesi Utara, sejak zaman dahulu juga sudah sangat majemuk, baik dari segi agama, etnis maupun ras. Sejumlah etnis dan ras lebih dulu eksis di sini, namun kedatangan komunitaskomunitas dari wilayah lain kemudian makin memperkaya daerah ini.
