Abstract
The purpose of this work is to investigate the usefulness of the load carrying capacity method for the design of complex shaped structural elements operating at elevated temperatures. The problem of plastic design of a T-head is considered as an example. The slip-line solution to this problem is presented and compared with earlier solutions by means of piecewise-homogeneous stress fields. Experimental tests on specimens made of heat resisting steel were carried out. The results of the experiments confirm the applicability of the plastic design method for elements made of this material as well at elevated as at room temperature.
