Abstract
ABSTRACT This article presents an analysis of a recently discovered stray page from the diary of Constantijn Huygens Jr (1628–1697), private secretary of stadhouder William III, Prince of Orange, with information about a secret visit by a number of English noblemen to William III in his hunting lodge Het Oude Loo near Apeldoorn. While the newly found folio only contains 260 words, it sheds new light on the preparations for a military enterprise that would be a turning point in English, Dutch and European history and came to be called the Glorious Revolution of 1688/89.
