Abstract
Abstract Strong constraints are imposed on the main components of a rf linac to reach high peak power in a free electron laser. To get high beam qualities, development programs and prototype realizations have been engaged for the following topics: a low-frequency photo-injector running at 144 MHz; an accelerator chain prototype at 433 MHz including a 6 MW peak power klystron with 200 μs pulse duration, a hard tube modulator and a 3-cell cavity; and an adjustable hybrid tapered wiggler with on-line feedback control.
