Abstract

The thermal diffusivity of LB films of arachidic acid in the stacking direction was measured at room temperature by a pulse heating method. The observed high thermal diffusivity value ( D = 0.40 cm 2/s) indicates strong phonon conduction along the molecular chains. A molecular dynamics computer simulation was made for the thermal transport process in a one-dimensional mass-spring model simulating the LB film, with the aim of studying the details of the phonon conduction in the system, and comparing with the experimental results.
