Abstract

Partial isothermal section of the phase diagram of the Dy–Co–Sn ternary system at 773 K (up to 66.7 at.% Sn) was investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis (DTA), optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The existence of eight ternary compounds has been confirmed, except for DyCo 3Sn and Dy 4CoSn 8. A new ternary compound Dy 3Co 4Sn 10 (space group: F23, a = 1.3574 nm) was found. The results show that this section consists of 22 single-phase regions, 46 two-phase regions and 25 three-phase regions. None of these phases in this system revealed a remarkable homogeneity range at 773 K.
