Prescription drug spending is increasing while most other areas of health care spending are slowing down. 1 In 2013, the most recent year for which CMS data are available, prescription drug spending increased by 2.5%—a staggering leap from the 0.5% increase in 2012. 2 Many in health care are pinning their hopes on biosimilars to help slowthe quick clip of rising drug costs.
