Abstract

Purpose. The aim of the article is to regard certain features of the personnel policy pursued by the administration of The Vyatka office of The Volga-Kama commercial bank at the turn of XIX and XX centuries as a factor of its stable development during these years. Methodology. The work applies the method of historical periodization and comparison, a systematic method. Results. The Vyatka office of the Volga-Kama commercial bank was the oldest commercial bank in the Vyatka province, and was considered to be the most respectable among them. Maintaining a high professional level of both directors and employees of the provincial offices has been critical for the board of the bank. Over 45 years 11 directors changed in the Vyatka office. Each of them had practical experience of financial or commercial activities. However, the office regularly subjected to monitoring. Most of those employees were of peasant origins and had low educational level. Their financial situation was very difficult as well. In this regard, directors used to pay them premiums and benefits, provided other assistance, including from the funds of the charity capital of the bank. A special concern of the administration was to support staff and replacement of staff losses due to mobilization during the First World War. The scope of the results. The obtained results can be used in research in economic history of pre-revolutionary Russia, and when planning and forecasting activities of modern financial institutions.
