He specializes in applying human factors engineering, learning technology, information technology, and business process engineering to performance-centered system design. Dickelman's work includes electronic performance support systems for human resources management, customer service, investments and pensions, health care, and business process reengineering. Dickelman is a member of the Society for Applied Learning Technology (SALT), the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He is a contributing author to Using Computers in Human Resources (Jossey-Bass, 1992) and The Instructional Technology Handbook (McGraw-Hill, 1993) and has authored numerous papers for trade publications.
