Abstract

This paper focuses on conducting a performance analysis of classical proportional integral derivative (PID) controller for frequency regulation in multi-area interconnected power system. The power system considered in the analysis includes wind and solar power sources integrated with thermal and hydal system. In area 1 along with thermal unit, WPG is appended and in second control area, a hydal unit is appended with SPG. The simulation of the present work is performed using MATLAB/Simulink. The dynamic responses obtained using the simulation using PID controller and without any controller have been compared. It is clearly demonstrated from the results that implementation of a PID controller effectively reduces the fluctuations in the system and hence, aids in order to maintain constant frequency.
