Abstract

This paper carries out the performance analysis of Permanent Magnet Synchronous (PMS) motor using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique has been done. These motors are widely used in industrial application due to high efficiency, fast dynamic response and compact size. Field oriented control is one of the extensively used method for speed control of these motors. The Field Oriented Control (FOC) technique decomposes the stator current into magnetic flux generating part and torque generating part. The field oriented control theory and space vector pulse width modulation technique help permanent magnet synchronous motor achieve the performance as good as DC motor. Predictive control is a new technique which apply discrete-time model based control scheme. This technique uses the machine model to calculate the voltages that remove the current errors after one sampling period. The voltages are consequently synthesized to the machine terminals using an inverter controlled by pulse width modulation. In the predictive current control, two additional PI controllers which are commonly used are eliminated thereby reducing the complexity. One achieves better dynamic performance is achieved. The control strategy has been simulated by MATLAB/SIMULINK. The speed of PMS motor is controlled in the constant torque region.
