Abstract
Schmidl&Cox, Minn and Park et al. based algorithms, have been copiously deployed in timing synchronization for OFDM systems so far. Additionally, the cooperative utility of non-contiguous subcarriers through Non-Contiguous OFDM (NC OFDM), can afford the essential supple spectrum usage for the target permitted spectrum for both the prime and ancillary users. This paper offers a comparative analytical prequel of Schmidl & cox, Minn and Park timing synchronization algorithms for OFDM system, to a novel Non-Contiguous OFDM (NC OFDM) system, for activated and deactivated subcarriers followed by the proposed Guard Interval (GI) based modified Park algorithm in NC OFDM, evaluated on the basis of timing metric and peak to side lobe ratio (PSR). It was observed that the Traditional Park algorithm outperforms the rest in OFDM system whereas the proposed GI insertion based modified Park algorithm outclasses its competitors for NC OFDM system.
