Abstract

This paper presents the perceptions of university students regarding gender diversity and the different reactions of colleagues through situations of prejudice. The purpose of this paper is to describe how college students perceive gender diversity on campus and how peers treat them. This is a descriptive, qualitative, cross-sectional study. The material used was a questionnaire based in Madureira (2007) and was made available in Google forms for students between 18 and 40 years old. A total of 61 university students participated, of which 35 were identified as being female, 25 male and one female. The mean age was 22.28 ± 6.03 years and 73.9% lived in Alto Tietê; 18% in the city of São Paulo; 3.3% in the Vale do Paraíba and Interior of São Paulo, Litoral Sul and ABC with 1.6%. Most participants have shown respect for their classmates, some point out the existence of comments and judgments that can lead to verbal violence and humiliation. It is understood that the homophobia problem on campus is still small, but that some precautions can be taken like raising awareness in classrooms, curricula or even in more comprehensive programs.
