Abstract

This study aims to investigate the influence of leadership style variables on teacher competence and teacher performance. This research is a survey research with quantitative approach. The participants in this study amounted to 142 teachers from Madrasah Aliyah throughout Central Lampung. Data collection on teacher competence and effective learning used a 5 Likert scale questionnaire, and leadership style data used a questionnaire developed by Northouse. The data analysis technique used path analysis. The findings of this study are: 1) democratic leadership has a significant effect on teacher competence, while laissez-faire leadership has no significant effect on teacher competence; 2) there is a positive and significant influence between teacher competence (professional, pedagogic, personality and social) on teacher performance and 3) there is a positive and significant influence of democratic leadership style on teacher performance, while laissez-faire leadership style has no significant effect on teacher performance.
