Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of underflooding of basements of buildings erected in cohesive soils. Conducted research has shown that a feature of these soils is the possibility of formation in them sporadically developed aquifer with a very low filtration coefficient. For this reason, this horizon is not always recorded during the survey and, accordingly, is rarely taken into account in the design. In order to save money, the construction is usually limited to waterproofing the basement walls and using loose material as backfill soils inthecavityslots. Thus, in the backfilled excavation slots, a medium capable of accumulating water is formed. With thegradualfilling of this container, under the conditions of the impossibility of water drainage into the foundation mass, due to the small filtration coefficient and the creation of appropriate pressure gradients, as well as possible defects in waterproofing, there are stable leaks in the basements of buildings ready for operation. The article analyzes the occurrence of such situations in a number of examples of erected buildings. The main sources of water ingress into the backfilled cavities of the excavation are indicated and a number of practical recommendations are given to avoid the occurrence of such situations in the future.
