Abstract

Abstract Treatments were applied to Bartlett pear trees in three locations: at Arendtsville and in Entomology and Horticulture plantings at Biglerville. Dilute sprays were applied to run-off with a handgun attached to a hydraulic sprayer operating at 400 psi. Single-tree plots were replicated twice in the experiments conducted at Arendtsville and in the Entomology planting. Two-tree plots replicated three times in a randomized block design were treated in the Horticulture planting. Treated plots were separated by trees not sprayed with insecticides. For Test 1 at Arendtsville, the treatments were applied April 11 and May 17. Treatments for Test 2 were applied July 15. In the Entomology planting, treatments for Test 1 were applied April 11 and for Test 2 on June 2. In the Horticulture planting, treatments for Test 1 were applied June 14 and for Test 2 on July 14. Benlate, 4 oz ai/100 gal, was sprayed on all pear trees on June 30 and July 19. For mite control Plictran, 2 oz ai/100 gal, was applied on July 16 and Carzol, 1.2 oz ai/100 gal, on August 2 to the Entomology and Horticulture plantings.
