Abstract

The article indicates that the labor market is an important element of a market economy, which performs the most important checks in the system of labor reproduction, its distribution between industries and sectors of the economy, regulating the demand and supply of workers, providing an impetus for professional and territorial mobility. It is determined that in the system of a market economy, the labor market is an indicator, the state of which allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of socio-economic transformations. Modern views on the labor market were formed by a long process of evolution of economic thought in the formation and development of this market. The first scientific studies in this area concerned the role of labor in the economic system and highlighted the problems of its use in the conditions of a spontaneous, unregulated market economy in England. It is concluded that under such conditions the Ukrainian labor market requires the search for mechanisms to increase the competitiveness of the workforce and create incentives that can stimulate the population to productive labor. The regulatory policy's decision on specific tasks for the formation and development of the labor market in the context of labor-resource volatility should be carried out within the framework of a nationwide targeted strategy for employment of the population, taking into account the structural features of matching supply and demand at the regional level. This strategy, firstly, should be aimed at a harmonious combination of state and market regulators, secondly, should be aimed at strategic development of the workforce due to bringing the characteristics of the latter in line with demand, and thirdly, it should be able to effectively implement the function staffing at the micro level.
