Abstract

The partial thermodynamic functions of the TiN system over the temperature range from 1500 K to 3200 K have been investigated using appropriate thermodynamic constraints and congruent vaporization equilibria. The results are presented as the nitrogen isobars superimposed on the phase diagram. The discrepancy between the reported congruent vaporization compositions in the δ-TiN c single-phase region has been resolved. The Gibbs energies of solution of nitrogen dissolution in solid and liquid titanium are also determined with the assumption that nitrogen dissolution follows Sievert's law.
