Abstract
A workshop was held in April 1995 to plan research into the promotion of sustainable tourism development in Central Java, Indonesia, a project which is being jointly pursued by Griffith University, Australia and the Javanese University of Diponegoro. Bill Faulkner reports on the workshop's objectives, the issues and problems raised and the tourism development models discussed as possible ways forward.
