Abstract

Before starting any molecular study the most important point after parent selection and population development, is the study of parental polymorphism between the two different parents for any trait under study, like in our study we are focusing in grain iron and zinc trait. Malnutrition due to some important mineral nutrition has emerged as one of the major problem, so in order to overcome this researcher are diverting their concern in this aspect through biofortication. In current study parental polymorphism was conducted between the recipient RP-Bio226 and donor Sampada having good variation in iron and zinc between both. Microsatellite SSR markers were used for the polymorphism test of 111 NILs at IRRI-SA Hyderabad molecular laboratory, it was found out of 1000 SSR markers 108 were found to be polymorphic on all 12 chromosomes for both the parents. The overall polymorphism survey for all 12 chromosomes was found to be 15.5%. Further genotyping the population with 108 SSR markers will generate genotyping data which can be used for linage map construction and their after in QTL identification for grain iron and zinc.
