Abstract
The operation of a 16 μm pulsed CF4 laser, optically pumped with a nonsaturating tunable hybrid CO2 laser, is described. The influence of CO2 pump pulse energy and shape, CF4 gas pressure and temperature, cavity configuration and addition of buffer gases on the CF4 laser radiation characteristics is discussed. From our experimental findings a set of criteria for optimum performance of CF4 lasers are given.
