Abstract
The worldwide abundance and relative low cost of coal, and its increasing use in gasification for syngas production for synthetic fuel and chemical manufacturing, presents ample opportunity for H2 production with inherent CO2 capture, through the use of limestone-derived CO2 sorbent. The combining of the water gas shift reaction and carbonation reaction in a single reactor has potential to increase process efficiency and reduce costs of the process, when compared to conventional H2 production. This paper presents a brief overview of the wider research to date and outlines proposed experimental work to further investigate effects of temperature and feed gas composition, as well as potential trace elements emissions from the process, in a bench-scale, bubbling fluidized bed reactor.
