Abstract

This paper presents the thoughts of the MoonMars Workshop regarding Overall Design of Moon and Mars Colonies. The workshop, held in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress 2003 in Bremen, was born from the Space Generation Summit 2002, with the overall goal of accelerating our pace in space. The MoonMars participants examined existing literature by space agencies and other parties (such as the Lunar Exploration Society and the Mars Society) on the overall design of colonies on the Moon and Mars. The specific goal of this combined youth and expert panel was to identify the many commonalities between the technologies needed for Moon and Mars exploration, and highlight those best suited to fit the needs of both missions.
