Abstract

The use of finite element models consisting of boundless horizontal soil layers based on a rigid rock may lead to nonrealistic results for soil-structure interaction problems. In this paper a computer program that is able to analyze the dynamic behaviour of surface or embedded rigid strip footings when the subsurface soil topography is arbitrary is presented. The frequency domain formulation of the Boundary Element Method is used. Typical applications of the program are the computation of dynamic stiffness matrices and the analysis of the seismic response of strip footings.
