Abstract

Secondary osteoporosis are related to causes different from age and estrogen production. The reduced bone mass and the increaase in fracure risk associated with different diseases, drugs and lifestyle causes 1/5 cases of osteoporosis in women and ½ cases in males with fractures. A great number of endocrinological, divestive, hematological, rheumatological, infectious, tumoral diseases and several drugs cause osteoporosis and fractures. In this article, causes, etiopathology, assessment and treatment are reviewered.
