Abstract
Osteoid osteoma is a benign tumor that rarely affects the bones of the foot. There are many pathologies that can produce foot pain in children and adolescents and therefore, reaching the diagnosis of OO can be delayed. It is important to have a high clinical suspicion of OO in the foot since the symptomatology is atypical, often without nocturnal pain, and radiographic tests are difficult to assess. We present the case of an OO in the distal dorsal aspect of the third cuneiform of the foot treated by alcoholic ablation with ethanol. So far, there are only 20 cases described in the literature of OO affecting the cuneiform bones. The treatment performed in the previous cases was by open surgery or radiofrequency ablation. Our case is the only OO of the lateral cuneiform treated by alcoholic ablation with ethanol with good postoperative results and no recurrence. In conclusion, CT-guided percutaneous alcohol ablation is a valid alternative for the treatment of an OO located in the foot. It is a minimally invasive, simple, effective and low-cost technique.
