Abstract

The new Goethals Bridge linking New Jersey and New York is a twin cable-stayed crossing that incorporates an innovative cable-stayed anchor in its towers, which angle outward to keep melting ice off the roadway surface. The project, which has an expected service life of 100 years, also represents the first time that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has had an infrastructure project delivered via public-private partnership.
